Hello buddies,
Welcome to my blog.I hope you will find some usefull information about beautiful place BAILHONGAL.
Bailhongal is a town, located in the northeast part of Belgaum district of karnataka.well guys, you must be wondering what the name bailhongal mean?? now let me explain you about that..
The name Bailhongal is derived from the Sanskrit and Halegannada(old kannada) language.the name is a combination of three different words..

  • Bailu   - which means "The ground/place"
  • Honnu - Health/gold
  • Gallu   - stones
Bailu Honnu Gallu became Bailhongal.which means,"The Ground Of Golden Stones".

Guys, isn't this interesting? now you might be thinking which places in Bailhongal
are worth visiting and made this place a ground of golden stones!!

  • Rani Chennamma memorial: Rani chennamma was taken captive by British and imprisoned in bailhongal fort where she died on 21-02-1829.Her samadhi(ಸಮಾಧಿ) is still preserved in Bailhongal and there is a beautiful park around that where people come in the evening

There are also important pilgrim places in the taluk, which include, Bharathinand swamiji math Inchal,Sogal someshwara temple,Hafiz bari dargah,a jamia masjid and also historical places where great freedom fighters like Rani chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna lived and sacrificed their lives for the purpose of freedom for the country from the british rule.
Rani Chennamma was the first woman to fight against British governance and the kappa tax.Her first victory and legacy are still commemorated in kittur, during the "kittur utsav" held every year 22-24 october, the festival is very grandly celebrated similar to Mysore Dasara.

Bailhongal city has excellent connectivity with number of major cities of karnataka.Transportation is provided by KSRTC and private buses which serves to major destinations in karnataka.Buses run by private companies are more comfortable and reliable, with most offering sleeper and air conditioned facilites. people who want to opt for railway facilities can come by train to Belgaum or Dharwad and take a bus to Bailhongal which would be cheaper and comfortable for travelling from long distance

Nearest airport is Belgaum airport at Sambra.this is al about transportation.
